· Development of Sustainable Conservation and Management of Medicinal Plants
Objectives :
To document the indigenous and traditional knowledge specifically related to the use of backyard home gardens both as a source of raw material and primary health care. To develop lists of Critically Threatened local Medicinal Plants in the villages and raise awareness among the local communities. To develop a cultivation manual based on experience and documentation of local medicinal plants. To motivate and extend the cultivation of medicinal plants in backyard home gardens to the rural communities for their new source of income. To influence national policy on medicinal plants conservation based on the success of this project.

Overall Objectives :
The main objective of this research is to document the traditional knowledge and market scenario of Medicinal Plant in Bangladesh

Output :
The findings were that the medicinal plants market is Taka 6.4 billion, where most of the plants are imported (processed raw materials) from neighboring countries. The findings were disclosed in a press conference held by DEBTEC The Government of Bangladesh has taken note of this initiative and Govt. of Bangladesh has declared the theme for the National Tree Plantation fair, for the next 3 consecutive years (2002-2005), as the medicinal plants year. By the intervention of DEBTEC a medicinal plants garden 'Banasray' was established at the Prime Ministers' Office. This model is being copied in different countries including President House in India . DEBTEC has produced a folk drama titled "Medicinal Plants for Life", to aware the grass root people, about the importance of medicinal plants.

· An attempt of Rapid Multiplication of Hijol (Barringtonia Acutangula) and Korach (Pongamia Pinnata) both are woody plants which grow abundantly in submerged area in Bangladesh
